When Misael and I decided to treat ourselves to a fine night out, we knew exactly where we wanted to go: Golden Plate Restaurant in the heart of Bole, Addis Ababa. The restaurant is located on the first floor of the Abyssinia Building. It promised a culinary experience like no other, led by the illustrious Chef Henok Zerihun. He is not only an executive chef but also the President of the Ethiopian Chef Association and a judge on the famed TV show, ‘MIRTU GEBETA.’

For my main course, I opted for the grilled chicken breast with mustard sauce, accompanied by a side salad and mashed potatoes. The presentation was impeccable, each element of the dish arranged with precision and care. The chicken breast, though a tad dry and slightly under-seasoned for my taste, was still enjoyable. The mustard sauce provided a tangy kick that paired well with the succulent mashed potatoes. While the dish didn’t quite hit the high note I had anticipated, it was a solid 7/10, and I was eager to return and explore more of the menu.

Misael, on the other hand, savored every bite of her meal, her eyes lighting up with each taste. As we dined, we engaged in heartfelt conversations, punctuated by moments of shared laughter.
