Hello, everyone! I’m Leon Key, an American adventurer hailing from the sunny city of Jacksonville, Florida. For the past two months, I’ve been living in the heart of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and I wanted to share my incredible experiences and the lessons I’ve learned along the way. At 37 years old, I’ve decided to take a leap of faith, pursuing my dreams of traveling, blogging, and vlogging my encounters around the world. A Warm Welcome in Addis Ababa

From the moment I stepped off the plane, I was enveloped by the warmth and hospitality of the Ethiopian people. Addis Ababa, a bustling city full of life and culture, has quickly become a place I hold dear to my heart. The vibrant streets, the aromatic scents of traditional foods, and the harmonious sounds of everyday life here have been a feast for my senses.

Cultural Riches

Ethiopian culture is a rich tapestry woven from history, tradition, and modernity. One of my most memorable experiences was partaking in a traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony. Coffee, or “buna” as it’s called here, is not just a drink but a ritual that brings people together. The process, from roasting the beans to brewing the coffee, is done with such care and respect. It’s a beautiful reminder of the importance of slowing down and savoring the moment.

I’ve also had the privilege of celebrating Meskel, a religious festival commemorating the finding of the True Cross. The city comes alive with processions, music, and dancing. Witnessing these celebrations has given me a deep appreciation for the Ethiopian way of life, where faith and community are at the forefront.

A Leap of Faith

Deciding to leave the familiar behind and embark on this journey wasn’t easy. At 37, many might think it’s too late to start something new, but I believe it’s never too late to chase your dreams. Every day in Addis Ababa has reinforced this belief. I’ve met people who have faced tremendous challenges yet continue to smile and push forward with unwavering determination. Their resilience is a powerful reminder that we can overcome any obstacle if we remain hopeful and persistent.
