When I was let go from my second writing position, I was scrambling to find a writing position. I never wanted to go back to working in a call center and experience the nightmare of handling calls. Created a Fiverr account offering a basic article writing gig. About 6 years ago. No one bought my gig, but I was able to find online work as a copywriter.

At some point three years ago, I went back to my Fiverr account and made some changes. This led to my first buyer on the platform. Let me tell my first Fiverr gig story and how you can also get yours as well.

My Fiverr Gig Story: From Blank Profile To Buyer Ping

Six years ago, I barely understood how content writing appeals to website owners beyond using a keyword in an article. Inexperienced and still learning about SEO, I created my Fiverr profile with the bare minimum amount. “I’ll do 500 to 1500 word articles for your website. All are high-quality. I will write content to help your SEO marketing.” I apologize for the cringe-inducing writing, but it is a part of my Fiverr gig story.

No one bought my gig. I created an article during my free time while looking for work as a part of my portfolio, but I never got a ping. Thankfully, I got a full-time writing position at that time and forgot about my Fiverr profile.

Years later, I have grown wiser when it comes to content writing. Specifically, what website owners need. An idea struck me, “Why not treat my profile as I would write my articles?” The profile, gig listing, and bullet points were remade to make me “sellable.” I also spent a significant amount of time on Canva to create the best possible thumbnail for my gig.

What happened next? Crickets for the next month, unti I got a notification from my email. A buyer who needs content on loan applications for foreign workers. I wrote several 1,000 worded articles for her, paid for the work, and gave me a positive feedback. It was an incredible boost to my self-esteem that someone ordered my services.

That feedback also helped boost my account to attract more buyers. I received a couple more offers to create articles.

Let’s go over the part of my first Fiverr gig story that helped me draw my first buyer. These lessons can also help content writers jump-start their careers on the platform.

Your first Fiverr gig comes from selling yourself as a solution.

Sell Yourself as a Solution

I made the mistake of having an “employee” mindset where I just offered my services to an employer. On Fiverr, you are selling your services to “buyers.” They do not have time to be the boss of an employee by teaching them how the business works or how to do the job.

Buyers are looking for “solutuion providers” who have the answers to their needs or problems. They expect you to write articles that will yield results, which can include driving traffic or increasing conversions.

Use the following keywords to give your gig listing that “I’ll get the job done” attitude:

  • Professionally written content
  • Unique articles
  • SEO-enhanced writing

Place these keywords in your title. This will make you stand out from other Fiverr sellers as a writer who can achieve results. Buyers will see your gig as the high-value solution they are looking for on the platform.

Pick and Concentrate on Your Niche

Being a blank slate or being willing to write any article seems to work when starting out. This was my belief, as I simply wanted to start writing for anyone. Unfortunately, over-generalizing your gig will make you less attractive in a sea of other writers.

Most successful Fiverr gig story strategies involve niche marketing, such as healthcare, automotive repair, or iGaming. Your gig listing should clarify how your expertise can create articles that match the buyers’ target audience. Niches help you achieve this.

Focusing on niches lets you write better articles since you are knowledgeable on the subject or are familiar with it. It also makes it easy for your future buyer to find you on Fiverr. Buyers do not just use “SEO writer” in their search query. Many tend to type “medical writer” or “legal articles” when looking for a Fiverr professional.

Your niche will also play an important role as a keyword for your gig. Utilize this for your category and tags. The title of your gig should also include it, like “I will write fashion content for your site.” Consider who your potential buyers will be with your niche. If it’s to do product reviews, a title like “I will create engaging Shopify affiliate articles.”

Your gig listing should clarify how your expertise can create articles that match the buyers’ target audience. Provide your experience working with previous clients or websites. It should also help

See How Successful Fiverr Writers Create Their Gig

I am not ashamed to admit. I reviewed other Fiverr writers to see how they attract buyers through their gigs. Note that I am not advising anyone to just steal others’ listings and use it on their own. My advice is to observe how they write their listings.

Note the keywords and wordings listed on the tiered listings of writers within your niche. Fashion writers often mention skincare, beauty products, and styling tips in their listings. If your niche is an interior designer, you will want to include “experience in writing tips to boost curb appeal and enhance outdoor functionality.”

Prices are also another factor to consider when going through other writers. Buyers have a specific budget in mind when looking for a writer. They will skip over Fiverr workers whose prices are too much. It is also important to not devalue your skills just to get your first buyer. Knowing the average pricing of writers within your niche can help you find the right rate of your gig.

How I Responded to My First Buyer’s Message

My Fiverr gig story continues when I received my buyer’s message. She said that she wanted new articles regarding “loan applications for foreign workers.” By foreign workers, she meant other Filipinos working overseas. The first response was critical here. I need to let her know I have a clear grasp of what she needed.

My response was, “Are you referring to the OWWA (overseas workers welfare administration) loans? I am familiar with the savings and loan association.” A green light likely clicked from her end. She bought my gig, and I completed 10 articles for her OWWA site.

Close the deal when a buyer messages you by clarifying their needs and providing suggestions for your tiered packages.

To be clear, OWWA is not my niche. However, I presented myself as a professional who could still provide the article she needed with my response. She also knows I am a good fit with my response. Thankfully, my late mother worked for the organization, allowing me to know where overseas workers needed to go for financial assistance.

Here are other answers to consider using when you get your first message:

  • If they ask for your price or rate, point them to the packages you have on your gig listing.
  • If they want a sample, provide an article outline and meta description
  • If they ask how long it would take, be honest and realistic on your completion time.
